A BIT ABOUT US

Our commitment to connecting, supporting and empowering women

At The Mojo Diva, we are committed to enhancing the lives of women and girls in the community through a range of face to face and online activities and events. The recent COVID 19 pandemic and subsequent local lock downs has prevented a lot of these activities in recent years, but we are ready to get out there and make a difference.

Over the years, we have recognised a need for women and girls in Western and Greater Western Sydney to have a safe, judgement-free space to build connections and support networks in order to become strong, empowered women. We wanted to create a community for women to uplift and be uplifted. Over time this vision has expanded to connecting women around Australia and indeed across the globe.

The Mojo Diva is the brain child of Renee Thorn, mother of four, wife, teacher, junior footy club president and lifelong local Western Sydney woman. Read below to find out why she started The Mojo Diva.

"I started The Mojo Diva initially because I wanted a life reset. I felt, fat, frumpy, bored and alone. I was unhappy and had lost who I was. My mojo has disappeared. I was drowning in all things motherhood and work with little time left for myself to just be - ME! I wanted to focus on self-care, health and fitness, getting my shit together and living my best life. In trying to do all the things by myself, I wondered where this so called "sisterhood" was. The village, the tribe so to speak. You know the one where your kids can be looked after so you can go to the gym or have a little me time; the one where you could catch up with the girls and have a good old chat and vent session. It had gone. Vanished! Along with my best friends who had moved overseas or interstate and others who were just at a different stage of life than myself. I felt so alone and lonely despite being someone who really enjoys my own company.

Interestingly, the more I talked to other women, the more I realised they also felt the same. Like me, they thought they were the only one going through what they were experiencing. The trenches of early motherhood can cut you off, different stages of life can cut you off, work/life balance can cut you off from the world and people around you. It can be compounded especially if you have children with special needs, are a single mother, don't have a strong support network or have a partner who cannot always be present. I didn't realise how wide this issue was until I got vulnerable and talked openly and honestly to other women. Mental health, sheer exhaustion and lack of resources were also a common factor among those I spoke to. We had ALL lost our mojo!

So with that I decided that The Mojo Diva should be a community for all women, from all walks of life. A place to connect, feel supported and be empowered by other women. A cheer squad and a charging station of sorts to rest, recharge and reconnect. The Mojo Diva is a sisterhood that invites our mothers, grandmothers, sisters and daughters to be the role models, mentors and wise women (affectionately known as Divas) we have been looking for."
